Nota is built to be usable by everyone, including students who rely on assistive technology. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
What we do
- Semantic HTML and ARIA roles for interactive components (dialogs, menus, tabs).
- Full keyboard support for core flows — navigation, search (⌘/Ctrl+K), dialogs (Enter / Esc), and the editor.
- Visible focus styles and logical focus order.
- A Light / Dark / System appearance setting, and a palette tuned for low-fatigue, sufficient contrast.
- Respect for
prefers-reduced-motion— decorative animation is disabled when requested.
Known limitations
- The freeform canvas and PDF ink tools are pointer-oriented and not yet fully keyboard-operable.
- Some third-party embedded content (e.g. LMS material) may not meet the same standard.
- Screen-reader labelling on the collaborative canvas is still being improved.
Feedback
If you hit an accessibility barrier, please tell us at accessibility@nota.college or via the contact form. We treat accessibility reports as priority issues and will work with you on an accommodation while we fix the underlying problem.
